Let's Eat and Eat and Eat!!!!!

I just read that starting this week until Angust 31st it's restaurant week in Fresno. It's longer than a week, but it's the thought that counts.  I moved to Fresno with my late husband, and my daughter so we could be restaurateurs. It's my son's birthday today.  He was born two months before we opened.

My husband opened a Shakey's Pizza Parlor on the corner of Shaw and Chestnut in 1976.  There was not much out there.  Fresno State was the main attraction.  Now there would be a state of the art pizza restaurant. It was built there because my husband hoped it would be the restaurant of choice for students and faculty at the university. 

However, life has a funny way of throwing curves. Shakey's did not fulfill the dreams of the owner.  Rather, it eventually closed before it had a chance to succeed.  Some very unusual events took place.  On one of my birthdays someone decided to drive through the brick wall of the building. There is also a ghost that is associated with the building.  On Halloween, the Fresno Bee mentions this ghost as one the ghosts of Fresno.

Today The Dog House sits on this site. I've never been there, but I hope that it is successful and that it will be one of the restaurants people choose to celebrate Restaurant Week.
